LAUAN502-Studio Brief 2

Competition

For studio brief two we was set the task of undertaking one competition or live brief. For this brief a graphic designer got in contact with me within the university and asked me to complete a competition brief with her. The brief she chose was the 'ArtFund' competition:

This competition asked people to create a campaign to raise awareness to students to actively chose to visit museums or galleries more often to improve stress and anxiety within a students life.

Me and the Beth Turnbull-smailes- the graphic designer, decided to approach this task by creating a booklet that is interactive for the person looking at it. By making the booklet interactive we thought this would allow the student to become involved within the art and proving that art is a fun way to relax and have fun. We chose to make the book interactive by going to art galleries and choosing certain pieces of art to put into the booklet. Within the book, Beth would be designing the booklet as whole with the typography and writing out the information about each artwork. My role within this competition was to create flip-books based on the artwork on each page. To slim the workload as I felt overwhelmed, I only designed one completed flip book.

The flip book tells the story of two teenager girls going to a art gallery and stepping into the picture. one they are inside the picture, they explore the painting and adventure inside it. We chose this storyline because we wanted to the paintings to almost become an escape from 'real-life'. These girls stepping into the painting demonstrates the feeling of fantasy world and almost the feeling of 'getting lost within a painting'.

I really enjoyed collaborating with Beth as we were able to jump ideas off of each other. This gave me a new confidence that I was able to work alongside other people and showcase my work when needed. I would collaborate again as this was a stress free task for me and being able to work with someone that has different skill sets to me helps me to improve not only within my work but also taught me new skills that I can bring into practice when designing.

Beth has asked me at this time to only show still images.
